Today marks the opening of the 2nd International Symposium on Evliya Çelebi, organized by the Oriental Institute of the University of Sarajevo. The symposium, titled “Cultural and Historical Currents in Bosnia and Herzegovina from the 15th to the 19th Century,” is being held on November 13 and 14 at the Gazi Husrev-bey Library and the Faculty of Economics in Sarajevo. Museum advisors Moamer Šehović and Adnan Muftarević, together with the Museum Director Indira Kučuk-Sorguč, attended all of today’s sessions, supporting the scholarly contributions of participants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, North Macedonia, and other countries who presented the results of their research.
This is also an opportunity for the Museum of Sarajevo to extend heartfelt congratulations to the Oriental Institute on its 75th anniversary, through the official message sent earlier today:
“With sincere respect and appreciation, we extend our warmest congratulations to our colleagues and associates at the Oriental Institute in Sarajevo on the remarkable occasion of the Institute’s 75 years of fruitful work.
As one of the most significant scholarly and cultural institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Oriental Institute has, for decades, preserved and researched invaluable archival materials and manuscript heritage, bearing witness to the centuries-long continuity of the cultural history of Bosniaks and the broader spiritual heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Through its dedicated scientific work, projects, and publications, the Institute has built a highly respected international reputation and has become an irreplaceable guardian of the written traces of the Oriental-Islamic civilization in this region. On this important anniversary, we wish you continued success in your future endeavors, new scholarly achievements, and perseverance in your mission to safeguard and interpret our rich cultural and historical heritage.
