Da <\/a>That in August 1894, Sarajevo hosted the Congress of European Archaeologists and Anthropologists\u2014one of the most important scientific gatherings of its time?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the Austro-Hungarian occupation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, systematic archaeological research began, with particular interest in prehistoric, classical (antique), and medieval archaeology. During this period, researchers such as Vladimir Radimsky, Franjo Fiala, \u0106iro Truhelka, Karl Patsch, and others distinguished themselves through their work, which led to remarkable discoveries. Among the most significant were the Butmir Neolithic culture and the archaeological sites of Glasinac.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These discoveries inspired the organization of a gathering in Sarajevo that brought together eminent European scholars who represented the forefront of archaeological and anthropological thought at the time. The 1894 Congress thus placed Sarajevo on the map of Europe\u2019s important scientific centers at the end of the 19th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
