Bernard Wieman, a German writer and lawyer who visited Bosnia and Herzegovina at the beginning of the 20th century, impressed by what he experienced has written down his literary impressions in the work Bosnisches Tagebuch (Bosnian travelogue). In the excerpt, translated and edited by Zijad Šehić, the author introduces us to the contrasting beauties of Sarajevo, which resembles a fairy-tale dream. He was particularly impressed by the kindness and broad-mindedness of the people and feeling happy that in Sarajevo he could learn about life even from shoe shiners. His unprejudiced, graphic and impressive record was published in Munich in 1908.
