A lecture on scriptoria – the places where richly decorated manuscripts were created in the Middle Ages

As part of the Our Heritage lecture series, on July 24 at 8:00 PM at Brusa Bezistan, Dr. Ema Mazrak (Academy of Fine Arts Sarajevo) will give a lecture on scriptoria – the places where richly decorated manuscripts were created in the Middle Ages.
Dr. Mazrak will discuss where these writing rooms were located, who the people behind the manuscripts were, and how the process of creating illuminated codices unfolded. Through examples such as the Hval Codex and Manojlo’s Gospel, we will explore the world of royal, ecclesiastical, and lay scriptoria that bear witness to the high level of literacy and artistic achievement in medieval Bosnia.
