The First International Theatre and Theatrology Symposium in Tuzla
The First International Theatre and Theatrology Scientific and Artistic Symposium was held on October 23 and 24, 2025, in Tuzla. Among the participants was the Director of the Museum of Sarajevo, Ms. Indira Kučuk-Sorguč, MA in Historical Sciences, anthropologist, theatre critic, and chronicler. The symposium was dedicated to Bosnian-Herzegovinian drama, with special focus on the dramatic works of one of the greatest figures of Bosnian and Bosniak literature, Nedžad Ibrišimović.
As part of the Theatre and Theatrology Days, the play Ugursuz by Nedžad Ibrišimović was premiered, directed by Isa Porović, and produced by the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Tuzla and BKC Tuzla. The new edition of the same play was also promoted, further emphasizing the legacy of Ibrišimović’s work.
The entire project was conceived and organized by the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Tuzla under the patronage of the University of Tuzla.
Ms. Kučuk-Sorguč presented her paper titled “The Plays of Nedžad Ibrišimović on the Stages of Bosnian Theatres (1996–2006)”. For Federal Television and TVTK, she stated:
“As a theatre critic and chronicler, I am interested in how directors have interpreted his plays — that is, how the wartime experience influenced postwar theatre life in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in turn, how it affected Ibrišimović’s dramatic expression.”
The symposium provided valuable insights into Bosnian-Herzegovinian dramatic creation from various perspectives. Discussions explored the influence of domestic drama on the development of theatre, as well as its presence on national and international stages and its future directions.
Congratulations to the organizers — the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Tuzla — and to all partners and participants.
