TRACES OF THE PAST, WORKS OF THE PRESENT

Last night, the exhibition Traces of the Past, Works of the Present was ceremoniously opened at the “Preporod” Gallery in Sarajevo. The exhibition is the result of an extensive project focused on the restoration and conservation of cultural and historical works from the collections of museums and other institutions in the Sarajevo Canton. The exhibition features numerous valuable restored items, among which the painting “Old Muslim – Beggar” by Petar Šain from the collection of the Sarajevo Museum stands out in particular.

The Director of the Sarajevo Museum, Indira Kučuk-Sorguč, emphasized the importance of implementing such projects, especially given the shortage of professional staff in the field of conservation and restoration. She pointed out that the number of objects in museums and galleries requiring expert restoration is extremely high, and that expertise in this field is essential. She stressed the importance of having an interdisciplinary academic program that educates qualified professionals necessary for the protection of cultural artifacts.

This exhibition strongly highlights the need for a systematic approach to heritage preservation, as well as the significance of collaboration between educational institutions and museums.
