International Day of Monuments and the Day of Starobosanski Dubrovnik

The Starobosanski Grad Dubrovnik Foundation, Ilijaš, in cooperation with the Public Institution Museum of Sarajevo, will organize the final activities of its 11th annual event dedicated to the International Day of Monuments and the Day of Starobosanski Dubrovnik on October 29, 2025. On this occasion, at 6:00 PM, in the Brusa Bezistan, there will be a presentation and an exhibition titled: PRESENTATION OF THE SUITABILITY OF THE STAROBOSANSKI GRAD DUBROVNIK (ILIJAŠ) LOCATION FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUSTAINABLE TOURISM.
The presentation part of the program will be conducted by members of the Foundation’s management bodies: Dr. Vjekoslava Simčić Sanković, Dr. Adnan Busuladžić, Dr. Nusret Dreković, Dr. Edin Bujak, Mr. Zlatan Filipović, Ms. Azra Bečević Šarenkapa, Dr. Adis Elias Fejzić, Edina Kamenica, and Perica Mijatović.
In addition to the infrastructural development of the site, the historical, cultural, and artistic value of the stećci from the Kopošići necropolis (once proclaimed as “our most beautiful medieval monument”) will be discussed, along with the 10th anniversary of the discovery of a noble brocade cloak with gold embroidery, now housed in the safe of the National Museum. The UNIQUE SOUVENIR – A STEĆAK WITH AN EPITAPH (from the Kopošići necropolis), which mentions King Tvrtko, will also be promoted.
As a new way of presenting the value of cultural heritage, a Virtual Reality Interpretive Center will be introduced, and there will also be a discussion on the EUROPE HORIZON Project – Stećci, which is partly implemented at the Kopošići necropolis.
In the second, entertainment part of the program, which will focus on the court ladies of Ilijaš Dubrovnik, musical and dance performances will be presented by artists Dragana Glumac and Senad Tafro, as well as a dance group performing medieval dances, operating under the Foundation. This part of the program is supported with equipment by the National Theatre Sarajevo.
Co-organizers of the event are the Ilijaš Municipality, ICOMOS – International Council on Monuments and Sites, NK in BiH, and the Coordination Team of the STEĆCI – EH Project.
The exhibition and VR Center can be visited at the Brusa Bezistan from October 29 to November 8, 2025, between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, with professional assistance. Additional explanations of the exhibition material will be provided for scheduled visits.
