Despić's
house
The house belonged to the wealthy Serbian Orthodox Despić's family, who donated it to the City along with another building, which today houses the Museum of Literature and Theatre Arts. The annex of the Sarajevo Museum, the oldest part of which dates back to the 17th century, was built in several phases during three different periods. The significance of the house lies in the fact that the first theatre performances in Sarajevo took place there, making this building a forerunner of modern theatre. With the opening of the Despić's House, Sarajevo gained another museum building that showcases the lifestyle and culture of a wealthy merchant family. The building is located at 2 Despićeva Street.
