Explore the period of Austro-Hungarian rule and the development of Sarajevo into a modern urban centre through the permanent exhibition of the Museum of Sarajevo 1878–1918. Through authentic exhibits, documents, and reconstructed interiors, visitors discover the story of everyday life, culture, and political changes in the city at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
This is a specific museum which, in addition to its interior space with museum exhibits, also offers in its exterior a completely free-of-charge, open-access conceptual display. This includes the cast footprints of Gavrilo Princip, the remains of the Assassination Monument (the bench near the Latin Bridge), and a photographic exhibition displayed on the Museum’s exterior portals.
Furthermore, an important fact is that the Museum is located at one of the world’s most famous sites—the place of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie.
Come and experience Sarajevo in a time of great change.
