Retrospective: Children, Creativity and Heritage at Sarajevo Museum

During 2025, the Museum of Sarajevo, through the work of its pedagogical service, organized numerous educational and creative workshops and performances for children across its annexes. As part of the “Race to the Museum” project, as well as through various partner and independent initiatives, our museum spaces became places of play, learning, creativity, and the first encounters of the youngest visitors with Sarajevo’s cultural and historical heritage.
The aim of these activities was to introduce children to our culture, traditions, and everyday life of the past in an accessible and engaging way. Through workshops such as Museum Tea Party, Dishes Through the History of the Sarajevo Region, Sevdalinka Through History, Bosnian Flower Courtyards, Jewelry Through History, and Tailors of Past Times, children had the opportunity to learn about traditional crafts, customs, music, and everyday objects, while gaining new knowledge about the cultural and historical heritage preserved by the Museum of Sarajevo.
Theatre improvisations at the Despić House brought particular joy, as children stepped into roles, acted, created scenes, and learned through play. In addition, children’s performances transformed the museum space into a living stage. In this way, the museum became not only a place of observation, but also one of active participation and experience.
We enter 2026 with even greater dedication and ambition, and new gatherings, workshops, and performances for our youngest visitors are already in preparation. See you at the museum!
