Zelenih beretki 1

Museum Of Sarajevo
1878-1918

The permanent exhibition presents Sarajevo during the period of Austro-Hungarian rule. It is located in the former Schiller’s shop building, at the corner of Obala Kulina bana and Zelenih beretki Street, in front of which the Sarajevo Assassination took place on June 28, 1914 — the murder of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife Sophie.

The permanent exhibition Museum Sarajevo 1878–1918, through 17 thematic sections, illustrates Sarajevo under the occupation of the Habsburg Monarchy. An integral part of the Museum are two memorials:

the Memorial to the Assassination (authentically preserved parts of the monument to Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie), while in front of the Museum are the footprints of the assassin Gavrilo Princip, artistically created and cast by academic painter Vojo Dimitrijević.

The Sarajevo Museum 1878-1918 is the most visited branch of the Museum of Sarajevo Given its location, marking the beginning of what was, until then, the bloodiest global conflict in human history, it is also considered to be a starting point for tourist tours in the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
