Sarajevo as a City of Stories: The Book Pripovijedati grad Promoted

On May 7, at 7 p.m., SPKD Prosvjeta organized the promotion of the book Pripovijedati grad by Academician Dževad Karahasan. The book was awarded the prize for the best non-fiction and essay publication of the year at the recently concluded 37th International Book Fair in Sarajevo.

In Pripovijedati grad (“Narrating the City”), Academician Karahasan presents Sarajevo as a city created for storytelling. After all the imagined yet vividly portrayed cities in his novels, Karahasan turns here to one concrete city, with its bridges, streets, and mahalas, a city perfectly suited to become the main character of numerous literary works and therefore, as the speakers emphasized, “created for storytelling.”

During the promotion, Muhamed Dželilović, Dijana Hadžizukić, Amir Vuk Zec, and Mile Stojić spoke about the author and his work, while the musical segment of the evening was performed by students of the Secondary Music School in Sarajevo. The Museum of Sarajevo supported both the publication and the promotion of the book with artworks from its rich collection by renowned Bosnian and Herzegovinian and international artists, including Safet Zec, Affan Ramić, Dobrivoje Beljkašić, Tomislav Krizman, and Franjo Likar. The promotion was attended by museum advisors of the Museum of Sarajevo, Hamdija Dizdar and Adnan Muftarević.
