The Public Institution Museum of Sarajevo continues its series of public lectures dedicated to the rich cultural and historical heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina, within the programme “Our Heritage”.
This time, we invite you to attend the lecture: “Pavlovac – Medieval Tombstones and the Question of the Burial of Prince Pavle Radenović”
Thursday, March 26, 2026
20:00 Museum of Sarajevo 1878–1918
Stećci, as unique monuments of medieval Bosnia, bear witness to the social, economic, and cultural circumstances of their time.
At the Pavlovac site, there was a significant necropolis with stećci, where archaeological research revealed a unique burial practice in stone and wooden sarcophagi. The history of this necropolis—from its relocation in 1980 to its return to the original site in 2019—also raises important questions about the protection and presentation of cultural heritage.
Special attention is drawn to the tradition surrounding the largest stećak, believed to mark the grave of the medieval Bosnian prince Pavle Radenović, although historical sources offer differing interpretations of his burial.
Join us and learn more about this intriguing intersection of archaeology, history, and tradition.
Welcome!
