In August 2026, the Museum of Sarajevo hosted a diverse range of events, and it’s precisely this diversity that reflects its unique character.
This month, we also took an important step towards making our content accessible to a wider audience by launching online broadcasts of our public lectures and further expanding our digital presence on YouTube and LinkedIn. We invite all friends of the Museum to join us online whenever they are unable to attend in person. We believe it is our duty to make the heritage we preserve accessible to the citizens of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, wherever they may be.
We would like to thank all project initiators and participants, guests, exhibitors, visitors and collaborators who contributed to another month filled with successful partnerships and meaningful encounters. We look forward to our September activities!
FILM SCREENING: “MOTHER QUEEN KATARINA KOSAČA-KOTROMANIĆ”
The film Mother Queen Katarina Kosača-Kotromanić was screened at Brusa Bezistan on Wednesday, 5 August 2026. Based on the novel of the same name by Nataša Bartula Hebert, the film brought the author’s artistic vision to life through the use of AI technology and the voices of friends and supporters of the project.
COMMEMORATING INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY
International Youth Day was commemorated on 12 August 2026 across all five branches of the Museum of Sarajevo, with free admission provided to young residents of the city. As a cultural institution with a strong educational role, the Museum of Sarajevo strives to give young people from Sarajevo and throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina an opportunity to discover the history of the capital and the country, develop the habit of visiting cultural institutions, find inspiration within the Museum and cultivate critical thinking.
THE 14TH INTERNATIONAL ART COLONY
The 14th International Art Colony, organised by the Art Colony Association and the Museum of Sarajevo, took place from 19 to 21 August, while the artworks created during the event were exhibited at Svrzo’s House on 22 August. Throughout the colony, 17 artists from around the world depicted Sarajevo and its beauty in the unique setting of Svrzo’s House. The programme also included a children’s workshop designed to introduce young participants to art and demonstrate the ways in which it can enrich their lives.
OPENING OF THE “SCENTS OF BAŠČARŠIJA” EXHIBITION
The exhibition Scents of Baščaršija opened on 22 August 2026 as the culmination of a three-day international art colony. Dedicated to Edin Numankadić, the exhibition also marked the addition of another artwork to the Museum of Sarajevo’s Art Collection. Artist Selver Kadrović donated his work Minaret at Night to the Museum.
CONCLUSION OF THE 2026 “SEVDAH BY DAMIR IMAMOVIĆ AT SVRZO’S HOUSE” PROJECT
A press conference marking the conclusion of the second year of the project Sevdah by Damir Imamović at Svrzo’s House was held at Svrzo’s House on 26 August 2026. The speakers were maestro Damir Imamović; Indira Kučuk-Sorguč, Director of the Museum of Sarajevo Public Institution; Nasiha Pozder, Federal Minister of Environment and Tourism; and Nedim Lipa, representing the Sarajevo Navigator Foundation. The project is of exceptional importance not only for the development of tourism in Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina but also for the preservation, promotion and continued appreciation of the country’s cultural and historical heritage.
THE 27TH PUBLIC LECTURE: “THE SAZ IN SARAJEVO”
The Saz in Sarajevo was the title of the 27th public lecture in the Our Heritage series, delivered by Damir Imamović at Brusa Bezistan on 27 August 2026. The lecture featured thoroughly researched information, photographs of early saz musicians and some of the oldest sound recordings from Bosnia and Herzegovina, including recordings from Sarajevo. The Museum of Sarajevo is committed to preserving the cultural and historical heritage of the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and this lecture fully embodied the mission and vision of the Our Heritage series.
CONCERT AS PART OF THE “CULTURE ON THE STREETS!” PROJECT
As part of the Sarajevo National Theatre’s special programme Culture on the Streets!, the concert Sevdah – World Reconnected, performed by Mona Muratović and Vedran Vujica, was held at Svrzo’s House on 30 August. Sevdah – World Reconnected is an original project by actress Mona Muratović, conceived at the intersection of concert and theatre and using sevdah to tell the story of Sarajevo. The aim of the Culture on the Streets! project is to make culture and the arts more accessible to the public by engaging young professional artists and presenting outstanding programmes and performances.
