Happy Hanukkah to the members of the Jewish community of our Sarajevo and our Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Hanukkah is one of the most important Jewish holidays and is celebrated on the 25th day of Kislev. This year, it is observed from December 14 to December 22, 2025.
Hanukkah is the Festival of Lights. Each year, during the eight days of Hanukkah, Jews light a special nine-branched candelabrum called a hanukkiah, lighting one candle more each evening.
May it continue to be so, as it has always been in our Sarajevo — a metropolis of light for all religions and worldviews — that our Jewish neighbors live, as they have throughout centuries of solidarity, mutual care, and respect, feeling like full and equal citizens and hosts in their own city.
