  • From the photo archive of the Museum of Sarajevo, we highlight a photograph titled “A View from the Outskirts of Sarajevo”.

One of the streets in the old part of Sarajevo, located opposite the City Hall (Vijećnica) and at the foot of the Sarajevo cable car, is called Hrvatin. In the past, this name referred to the area between the gardens on the left bank of the Miljacka River and the slopes of Trebević, and it was also the name of a stream that once flowed through this area.

The photograph shows the well-known Hrvatin Mosque (Ivlakovali Hadži Mehmed Mosque), built in 1540 by Hadži Mehmed Vlakovali. The mosque is located at the intersection of Hrvatin and Bakarevića streets and represents one of the valuable traces of the Ottoman period in Sarajevo.
