It is with deep sadness that we received the news of the death of our respected friend, the prominent Bosnian artist Edin Numankadiฤ‡.

Edin Numankadiฤ‡ belonged to a generation of artists that strongly marked the development of contemporary fine art in Bosnia and Herzegovina. During more than five decades of artistic activity, he created an exceptional oeuvre that includes painting, assemblage and conceptual art practices, leaving an indelible mark on the cultural and artistic life of our country.

He was one of the founders of the art groups 1+1+1, Prostor-Oblik and KAMMEN, and one of the artists who contributed to the pluralization and modernization of the Bosnian art scene. He represented Bosnia and Herzegovina twice at the Venice Biennale - in 1993 through the project "Witnesses of Existence" and in 2003 as part of the national selection. As the long-time director of the Olympic Museum in Sarajevo, he was also remembered for his courageous rescue of Olympic heritage from the burning museum building during the siege of Sarajevo in 1992. He was also one of the founders of the collection of the Ars Aevi Museum of Contemporary Art.

He exhibited at more than 50 solo and over 300 collective exhibitions in the country and abroad and is the recipient of numerous domestic and international awards, including the 6th of April Award of the City of Sarajevo and the Order of Knight of Arts and Letters of the Republic of France.

Edin Numankadiฤ‡ held a special place for the Museum of Sarajevo. His works, which are kept in the art collection of the Museum of Sarajevo, are a permanent testament to his exceptional creativity and artistic vision. Through years of cooperation and friendship, he left a deep mark on our institution and among all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He left us just a few days before the opening of his major retrospective exhibition "Presence" at the Art Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Nevertheless, his presence remains permanently woven into the art he left us, the institutions he created and preserved, and the collective memory of our city and country.

In memory of Edin Numankadiฤ‡, we are publishing works from the cycle "Color, space, time", "Traces" and "Records" from the art collection of the Museum of Sarajevo - as a permanent reminder of the artist whose presence will continue to live on through his art.

We send our sincere condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and admirers of his work.

To him be eternal glory and praise.
