A photograph preserved in the photo archive of the Museum of Sarajevo documents the final farewell of Vladimir Perić Valter, one of the symbols of resistance in Sarajevo during the Second World War.
Valter was a prominent partisan underground operative and organizer of the resistance movement, whose activities left a deep mark on the history of the city. He was killed in 1945, and his funeral turned into a massive gathering of Sarajevo citizens who came to pay their respects.
The photograph shows a long procession of people moving through the city streets, while in the background the Eternal Flame can be seen, alongside a prominently displayed portrait of Josip Broz Tito.
