The Art Collection of the Museum of Sarajevo preserves the painting “Gazi Husrev-bey’s Hammam” by the academic painter Behaudin Selmanović, created in 1957. The artwork depicts one of the most significant examples of Ottoman architecture in Sarajevo – the Gazi Husrev-bey’s Hammam, built in the 16th century as part of the great endowment complex established by Gazi Husrev-bey.
For centuries, the hammam served as a public bathhouse and an important social gathering place for the citizens of Sarajevo. Its distinctive domes, which dominate Selmanović’s composition, remain a recognizable symbol of Sarajevo’s urban heritage. Following its restoration, the historic hammam was incorporated into the complex of the Bosniak Institute, where it continues to serve as a place of culture and social interaction.
